Who we are
An idea born from compassion.
Educate an Orphan Uganda is a non-profit organization established on 6 May 2017 by a team of Muslim students of Kikoni Muslim Union, operating under the Makerere University Muslim Students' Association.
From a small student-led idea grew a movement built around one conviction: education can change the trajectory of a child's life.
EAO works to reduce inequalities and poverty among vulnerable and underprivileged orphans by providing quality education together with moral, material and financial support.

From a simple idea to a growing movement.
EAO's story is a story of people choosing to give what they can, then discovering what becomes possible when many people give together.
2016
The idea was born
A group of Makerere University students began exploring how they could empower vulnerable and underprivileged orphans through education.
2017
EAO was launched
On 6 May 2017, the Orphan Education Run was held and Educate an Orphan was officially launched.
2018
First scholarships
EAO launched its orphan scholarship programme and enrolled its first 10 beneficiaries.
2019
The family grew
Five additional orphans were enrolled through a new partner school in Butambala.
2020
50 children reached
The number of ever-enrolled beneficiaries reached 50 as EAO continued expanding its scholarship programme.
2022
Strengthening the model
EAO conducted a major beneficiary validation exercise while expanding the support given to children beyond school fees.
2023–24
National expansion
A further 15 children were enrolled, bringing the total number ever enrolled since 2018 to 65.
2026
44 children sponsored
EAO now fully sponsors 44 orphans distributed across 12 districts around Uganda.

EAO began with a team of about 10 students. By the end of 2017, membership stood at just 43 philanthropists.
The community grew steadily, reaching 3,000 members by 2024 and 3,338 registered members by the end of 2025.

A legacy that continues.
Sadaqatul Jaariyah means continuous charity — a form of charity whose benefits continue beyond the donor's lifetime.
For deceased EAO members, the organization establishes a community-benefiting project that continues serving people as a symbol of the member's contribution to society.

Our future in action
Building a school. Building a future.
EAO's school project is designed to increase the number of beneficiaries, provide holistic education and strengthen the long-term sustainability of the organization's impact.
Following the 2022 AGM resolution, funds from the Annual EAO Run have been directed toward the school project. In 2024, EAO secured 0.512 acres of land at Nabukalu in Wakiso District, valued at UGX 150 million.
